Movie Posters

Design

So why no posts lately? Well, I’ve been incredibly busy at work. For about the past five or six weeks, we’ve been rebranding and redecorating our entire building, getting ready for our 35th Anniversary party that took place last Thursday. It required quite a bit of overtime and some weekend work. After getting home late, I really didn’t do much other than eat and go to bed. So I didn’t have much to share.

In addition to all the painting, my boss, Sean, and I had our own project that we had to come up with as a giveaway for the party. We decided to make a movie poster. We wanted to showcase variable data and all the cool things you can do with it. While waiting for their tour, guests filled out a quick questionnaire-type form in Access. As they went on their tour, we collected the data that they entered and printed their variable posters for them to pick up when they came into our department anywhere from 15-25 minutes later.

The inspiration for the posters came from one of the posters created for Burlesque. I took pictures of employees and had them make 10 different faces related to a specific emotion. We then chose the best of each female and male photo to use. (The picture taking part was so much fun! My cheeks hurt so much from laughing!)

When guests filled out their questionnaire, they got to choose either a male or a female, an emotion, and a color. Those choices put the characters into their spots on the poster and colored their eyes. Then they also got to choose a title (or make their own) and a movie plot that our talented co-worker, Jason Sandberg, wrote (or make their own). The final choices were for the font and color of the text. We added the line, “Based on a true story by xxxxx,” where we put in their name so that we could tell who created which poster.

It was so much fun, and people loved it! The owners of the company thanked me and Sean multiple times, which was really nice. Sadly, I did not get to partake much in the party, because I was helping search for posters and filling in on the tour duties, but it was still a nice time! But I am glad it’s over!!

Flashback!

Miscellaneous

A few years ago, I sent my physical photographs out to be scanned to a disk. This weekend, I finally went through the arduous task of organizing them! It was time consuming, but fun to look back and see a bunch of photos that I don’t remember very well.

I thought I would share this photo with you because it’s the first photograph that I remember taking with a creative idea in mind, not just pointing and shooting. This is a picture of my brother in our tent on a camping trip we took. I had to lighten it a bit because it was really dark after being scanned, but, no, it’s not a good photograph.

In my childhood mind, I thought that with the shadows of the trees on the tent and my brother in front of them, the photo would come out with him looking like he was in the jungle. I obviously didn’t really understand photography much back then, because he didn’t look like he was in the jungle to my actual eye when I took the picture. But I was convinced that it would look really cool when it got developed. I was so disappointed when I got the photo back and a) my brother did not appear to be in the jungle, and b) the photo was so dark.

It’s fun to look back and see how much I’ve learned!

Baby Deer!

Photography

The best part about living where we do, is all the wildlife that we get to see in the back yard. This weekend, I got to see some baby deer! Aren’t they cute?

I couldn’t pass up grabbing my camera and taking a boat load of pictures! Sadly, not all of them turned out. I had to share the momma deer with her tongue sticking out, even if it is blurry. ‘Cause I love that she’s sticking her tongue out at me!

I hope I never grow tired of rushing to see the animals in the back yard…wait…does that make me an old lady?!

Texture Shots

Photography

Today I was working on using my macro filters and flash. I don’t have an actual macro lens, so awhile ago I bought some inexpensive filters to play with. If I like them, I will either buy a glass version of the filters or an actual macro lens. For the most part, they do what I want to do. But there are four filters in the set, and if I put them all on my lens, the camera can see the edges of them, and it gets in the picture. Luckily, they are powerful enough that I haven’t really needed them all yet!

Bathroom Remodel

Miscellaneous

Are you tired of home remodeling pictures yet? Well, if you are, it’s a good thing for you that this is the last room that we are redoing this year. This is the main bathroom, and it used to have a pink pedestal sink, pink toilet, and flower wallpaper…on the ceiling as well as the walls! What a huge difference in this room! It’s so modern now. (Although, it was always fun to watch everyone’s reaction when we showed them this room!)

It’s so nice to have this done. We have been without a towel rack or toilet paper holder for over a month now, and the towels just don’t get as dry when they are bunched up on top of the toilet.

And since it was on super sale, we decided to try a bidet toilet seat! The concept has always made sense to me, but I wasn’t sure if I would like it. The part that grossed me out the most was that it has a heated seat. But actually, it’s nice, and I think it will be really nice in the winter! So in case you are on the fence about your own bidet toilet seat, I say “Go for it!” I’m happy that we got ours.

The original plan for this room was to just paint and replace the toilet and sink at a later date. But we decided that it made more sense to make the changes now, rather than choosing paint that goes with the pink porcelain, and then possibly redoing it in the future, if it didn’t look as good with our new sink and toilet. I’m glad that we did, because my original plan was to paint the room a dark gray. The room already looks smaller since the toilet and sink are so much larger than the previous ones. I think a dark gray would have made this look too dark and cramped. So good call Lavelys!
