A few weekends ago, I had my first senior portrait session. I was really nervous because I haven’t taken many pictures of people, and I wasn’t sure if they would turn out. But I think they worked out, and I’m really glad to have had the experience. It showed me that it’s good to get outside of your comfort zone and try something different. And the best part?…I got to play in Photoshop! Yea!
I’m back!…
MiscellaneousWow! It’s been awhile since I have posted. I have since graduated and, I won’t lie, have been doing a lot of nothing and enjoying it! It’s nice to have my non-work world not be full of deadlines. But one can only spend so much time doing nothing until they are considered lazy!
Actually, I really can’t say that I have been doing nothing. Since my last post, I have tiled my bathroom, knitted a baby sweater, and sewed (sewn?) a skirt. In addition, I have been working on learning some new things. Right now, I am learning how to create ebooks with InDesign. I’m really enjoying it, and I hope to get good at it. At work, I’ve also been learning a lot about social media and trying to figure out how to make it work for my company.
Below are pictures of my completed projects.
Independent Study
ArtworkFor my Independent Study, I wanted to comment on how technology is changing our world and how we are affected by it.
My first piece is titled Communication. I wanted to show that even though we are in close proximity to others, it seems that we prefer to use our technology to speak instead of our voices. For this piece, I wanted to show a more intimate setting where two people had the opportunity to turn towards each other and speak, but instead are barely facing each other and are conversating through their phones.
My next piece is titled Fear. In this piece, I wanted to show how the world is a beatiful place, but by being constantly connected to technology and the negative messages that are sent out daily, people are starting to become afraid, when there is nothing to be afraid of. (I am not saying that there is nothing to fear in the world, but that the fears are growing, while the actual threats are diminishing.)
In the Style of…
Design, PhotographyFor my extended image class, we were supposed to research a photographer and then create artwork “in the style of” that photographer. I chose Barbara Kruger. She was inspirational to me because she is also a graphic designer and works with text and appropriation, which I have never done before. I had a lot of fun with it and am interested in exploring it further in the future.
My intent was to show the disparity between weath and poverty. The National Geographic photos were made to look like ads and the fashion ads were made to mimic National Geographic. Since I work in the printing industry, I made the page to look like a press sheet.
